Nicola Sturgeon announces no new coronavirus deaths and 1504 cases in Scotland

There have been no deaths from coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

The Scottish government also announced that 1504 new cases of COVID-19 were reported overnight.

Sturgeon said the lower number of cases is due to a backlog of pending numbers.

264 people are in the hospital receiving treatment for the deadly virus, while 7 people remain in intensive care.

The news came on the day a UK cabinet minister rejected Nicola Sturgeon’s request for an extension of the Brexit transition period while tackling the latest coronavirus crisis.

The Prime Minister tweeted: “It is now imperative that the Prime Minister seek a deal to extend the Brexit transition period.

“The new Covid strain, and the various implications of it, means that we are facing a deeply dire situation, which demands our 100% attention.

“It would be inconceivable to make it worse with Brexit.”

She was responding to Boris Johnson’s decision to convene a meeting of the government’s Cobra emergency committee this morning amid a growing sense of chaos over the UK’s French cargo and passenger ban.

In response to their plea, UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said there would be “absolutely not” an extension to stay within the EU rules beyond December 31st.
