Nicola Sturgeon has announced that 175 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours.
The Prime Minister revealed that no one has died across the country in the same period, which means that the death toll stands at 2,499.
The total number of confirmed cases in Scotland now stands at 22,214 since the start of the pandemic in late March.
The number of coronavirus patients receiving treatment at the hospital is 269, with eight in intensive care.
The latest figures come as lockdown rules in Scotland are set to tighten again amid a surge in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases.
Nicola Sturgeon announced the new restrictions from the Scottish Parliament yesterday.
Starting Monday, people will be banned from gathering in groups of more than six out of two households.
Diners in pubs and restaurants will have to cover their faces when moving and not eat or drink.
The recent increase means the country cannot exit phase 3 of the pandemic roadmap next week as planned.
More than 8,600 Scots have signed a petition calling on the Scottish BBC to reverse its decision to stop broadcasting the Scottish government’s daily coronavirus briefings.
The bosses announced yesterday that they will no longer broadcast Nicola Sturgeon’s updates on BBC One Scotland and the BBC Scotland channel and will instead decide whether to broadcast them based on “editorial merit”.
The corporation has made the decision to reduce its activity as business in the Scottish Parliament has returned to a more normal basis.
But the decision to remove the Covid-19 briefings from television, which have been shown during the pandemic, has been criticized by the public.
Organizer Laura McNeill says BBC Scotland’s decision not to broadcast the briefings would put the country at “serious risk”.
The BBC will continue to broadcast the briefings live on its news website.
