Nicola Sturgeon has announced that 161 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

The Prime Minister revealed that no one has died across the country in the same period, keeping the death toll at 2,499.

The total number of positive cases in Scotland now stands at 22,039 since the start of the pandemic in late March.

The number of coronavirus patients receiving treatment in the hospital is 266, seven in intensive care.

Occurs when Scotland’s contact tracing app goes live across the country.

The government said Protect Scotland will support the Test and Protect system and is “another tool in the fight against Covid-19.”

The application can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Nicola Sturgeon will consider introducing more restrictions on social gatherings in Scotland in an effort to stem the rise in coronavirus cases, particularly among young people.

The Prime Minister will announce later on Thursday whether Scotland will follow a Boris Johnson move as he urges people to download NHS Scotland’s new contact tracing app for mobile phones.

The Scottish government has taken a more cautious approach to easing the lockdown, so the Prime Minister is unlikely to lift existing restrictions, and could impose more.

Sturgeon had already warned that his latest review “would probably take a very cautious approach.”
