Callum Wilson has landed on Tyneside to complete his £ 20 million move from AFC Bournemouth.

Chronicle Live understands that Mike Ashley leaned back in his helicopter to make sure Wilson’s movement accelerated quickly.

A doctor now awaits the Bournemouth forward and the usual formalities, but Steve Bruce is hopeful that the deal will come through soon.

Wilson had also been the subject of a higher offer, £ 21 million, from Aston Villa, but the city’s second team withdrew once the 28-year-old declared his enthusiasm for playing for the Magpies.

Bruce also wants to close a deal for the free transfer of Ryan Fraser and Norwich City winger Jamal Lewis after a £ 13.5 million offer was accepted.

The Magpies have already signed midfielder Jeff Hendrick for free after his contract with Burnley expired, and brought goalkeeper Mark Gillespie to Tyneside from Motherwell in early summer.

United will begin their Premier League season on Saturday when they face West Ham United.
