Friends and neighbors have helped replace £ 600 that was stolen along with a retiree’s purse just before Christmas.

Kyle Harper was at his parents’ home in Walton on leave from his job in the RAF.

The day before Christmas Eve, he was in the kitchen chatting with his mother when someone knocked on the door.

Kyle, 33, said: “The lovely lady who lives a couple of doors down, always shows up to give the dog a pack of food.

“He called and gave a small package of food and the next minute he burst into tears.”

Kyle took his mother’s neighbor Rhona inside to chat and asked why she was upset.

He said: “She had been to the post office and took out her pension money, which was £ 600.

“Then he went to the Woodlands Hospice charity shop in Old Swan because they apparently have beautiful cards.

“There were two women there, one in her thirties and one much younger as a teenager.

“They bumped into her and asked her forgiveness. When she went to the cash register to pay for her cards, she realized her purse was gone.”

Kyle said the woman who worked behind the cash register at the charity shop wrote descriptions of Rhona so she could report him to the police.

Unfortunately, due to the cost, the store does not have CCTV as the maintenance is too expensive.

Kyle added: “From the looks of it, I think it was pretty much everything she had saved.

“I think, like the elderly, they take everything and pay cash.

“My mother and I were just sitting there listening to her and I thought, okay, it’s Facebook time.”

Kyle took to Facebook and posted about what happened to Rhona, and created a Gofundme page to see if they could get back some of the money he had lost.

In a matter of hours they managed to raise the total goal of £ 600 which Kyle turned over and delivered to his mother’s neighbor at their doorstep.

A video taken by Kyle showed Rhona in tears, so overwhelmed by money that she could barely speak, but she managed to thank those who donated by saying, “He’s so kind to everyone.”

He said: “I would like to thank each and every person who donated to raise some money for my neighbor who had 600 pounds stolen yesterday.

“After only 24 hours we were able to raise the total amount to return to him so that he can have the Christmas for which he had saved.”

Adding: “Although I cannot physically receive the money from the go me fund until the new year, I have personally contributed the full amount for now so that I can at least try to restore your Christmas tomorrow before the big day.”

Merseyside Police have confirmed that the incident has been reported and is investigating.
