Shocked neighbors have spoken of the moment shots rang out on their street after a man was shot in Dovecot last night.

Police remain at the scene of the shooting on Ashover Avenue, which remains taped after a man was shot in the legs Sunday night.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that around 8:20 pm armed police were called to report that a man in his 30s was found with gunshot wounds to the legs.

They took him to the hospital to assess his injuries.

A sick neighbor, who has lived on the street for four years, said she initially mistook the shooting for something on television before the dire reality was confirmed.

She told ECHO reporter Lee Grimsditch on the scene today: “I heard two gunshots but I thought it was TV. Minutes later I saw lights flashing everywhere from emergency vehicles.”

Other neighbors recalled seeing the injured man covered with a green tarp while the emergency services attended to us; the sheet could still be seen this morning.

Forensic officers are on the scene and police officers were knocking on doors this morning as the investigation continues.

Muddy tire marks could also be seen that, according to locals, were left behind when armed police were called to the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Wilson said: “At this very early stage of the investigation, we are eager to speak to anyone who was in any of the areas at the time and saw this incident or anything suspicious.

“Your information, CCTV, dash cam or other images can prove vital as we find out exactly what happened.

“Firearm incidents have decreased in recent months and we are determined to continue reducing them in all affected communities. Tell us what you know and we will take positive steps to get those responsible and their weapons off the streets. “
