Nancy Pelosi was photographed in a San Francisco hair salon without covering her face, breaking the city’s coronavirus prevention rules.
The security camera footage, which was obtained by Fox News, shows the speaker of the Democratic House without a mask on her face as she walked through the room.
Salons in San Francisco were closed during the coronavirus pandemic, and limited outdoor operations began only on Tuesday. The images, which show Pelosi walking through the eSalon with a mask around her neck, were filmed on a date Monday.
Pelosi has regularly told American citizens to wear masks and follow guidelines intended to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Salon owner Erica Kious said one of her stylists who rented a chair from the store had opened it especially for Pelosi’s date.
“It was a slap in the face that he walked in, you know, that he feels like he can go and do his thing while nobody else can come in, and I can’t work,” Kious told Fox News.
“We’ve been closed for so long, not just me, but most small businesses and I just can’t, it’s a feeling, a feeling of being deflated, helpless and honestly defeated,” she added.
Kious said that based on his interpretation of the coronavirus safety precautions, hair drying is prohibited in salons.
She added: “I have been fighting for six months for a business that took me 12 years to build to reopen,” she said. “I am a single mother, I have two small children and I have no income.
“We are supposed to admire this woman, right? It’s just disturbing. “
A spokesperson for Pelosi, Drew Hammill, responded that the Californian congresswoman had not realized she was breaking her hometown’s virus prevention rules.
“This business offered to have the speaker come in on Monday and tell him that the city allowed them to have one customer at a time in business,” he said, adding, “The speaker complied with the rules that were presented to him by this establishment.”
