There is a police cordon after the body of a 67-year-old woman found in a house in Levenshulme.

A murder investigation was launched after the grim discovery was made on Westminster Street at 8:30 p.m. Thursday (May 7).

GMP confirmed that a 67-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are now looking for Leroy Panton, 41, who is believed to have lived at the same address as the deceased.

They said they are “becoming increasingly concerned” about his well-being and urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

A police cordon is in place

Detective Inspector Benjamin Cottam of the GMP Major Incident Team said: “This is a tragic incident in which a woman sadly lost her life and I want to extend my sincere condolences to her family and friends.”

“Our specialist officers are currently supporting the woman’s family at this incredibly difficult time.

Officers are now looking for Leroy Panton, 41, who is believed to have lived at the same address as the deceased.

“I would like to assure the public that this is being treated as an isolated incident, and we have a greater police presence in the Manchester area as we gain a fuller understanding of what exactly has happened.

“Our dedicated team of detectives is working tirelessly to establish the full circumstances surrounding this tragic death.

“Even the smallest information could be vital in helping officers complete their queries.”

A police cordon remained in place outside a house on Westminster Street on Friday night (May 8).

Officials said a 67-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were photographed guarding a house.

A police car was also parked on the highway.

GMP confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.
