Several people have been shot and killed after gunfire broke out during a reported hostage situation, police say.
Police were called in to the apparent siege in Salem, Oregon, United States, before explosions broke out across the region.
While it is unclear exactly how the situation unfolded, the accused kidnapper was among the dead, police said.
Investigators did not say who fired the fatal shots.
A statement from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said officers were called to the home around 12:30 p.m. Monday.
After their arrival, a crisis negotiator was called who attempted to speak to the suspect by phone before they shot each other.
The police only said that “shots were fired” and several people were killed at the scene.
The Oregon State Police is now investigating the case.
They said no officers were injured and that anyone involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
Police said there is no continuing danger to the community at large.
