Motherwell 1-5 Rangers: Gerrard’s men extend lead to top of league

Itten's goal
Substitute Cedric Itten opened his Rangers account with a surprising strike before scoring a second.

The Rangers maintained their undefeated start in the Scottish Premiership when they defeated a mediocre Motherwell at Fir Park.

Supports from James Tavernier and Cedric Itten, plus a goal from Jordan Jones, put the shine on an emphatic performance.

A late own goal by George Edmundson offered little comfort to the hosts.

The victory extends the Rangers’ lead at the top of the table to four points, having played two more games than Celtic, who host Hibernian later on Sunday.

As for Motherwell, the defeat leaves them ninth on goal difference.

More to follow.
