This is the horrible moment when a truck entered a family’s home, leaving a 29-year-old man dead and a boy fighting for his life.
The truck sped down a suburban London street this morning, colliding with two more cars along the road before colliding with two more vehicles and the house.
No one in the house was injured.
An 11-year-old boy, believed to have been a boy, is today in a “life-threatening” hospital.
Two men were taken to hospital and two other wounded were discharged from the scene in Kidbrooke, southeast London.
The owner of the house, hairdresser Niko, 55, was awakened by the blow while sleeping in the room above the point of impact.
His son was “seconds” away from being killed as he came downstairs to make an infusion while his wife was working.
“There was dust and bricks everywhere,” Niko, who has lived there for 33 years, told the Mirror.
“I just thought, how the hell did a truck end up at my house?
“I am in shock, I feel numb. It was in my room directly above it. My first thought was to leave home with my two children.
“I feel very lucky to be alive but of course also very unfortunate, and it is tragic that someone died.
“I heard that the driver had a heart attack at the wheel.
“I think the boy who was injured was possibly in a car with his dad. I really hope it’s okay.
“At the end of the day, this is just a house, it’s bricks and mortar.”
Neighbor Rosie Chadha, 37, was told that the truck driver had been signaling a car in front to pull away.
“A woman said she was driving in front of him and he gestured for her to get out of the way and she stopped,” the financial regulator said.
“Maybe his brakes weren’t working. I heard a great crash and the sound of a house collapsing.
“There was a boy on a stretcher, his school clothes were on the floor and the paramedics were trying to resuscitate him and the air ambulance came to look for him.
“There was a man covered in blood, I think he was the boy’s father.”
Debris from the massive crush was strewn across the road as police cordoned off the entire street, including a section where two other cars had been run over as the truck sped down the road, leaving a trail of destruction.
Directly outside the house, the truck crashed into a Land Rover and a Citroen Xsara Picasso.
Attorney Kate Hurst, 38, ran from her home to help the injured.
“I heard that the truck was going over the bumps at a fantastic speed and the noise coming into the house was horrible,” he said.
“I went out to classify people. There was a guy covered in blood, I was just trying to calm him down and get in touch with people.
“His car was one of the smoldering cars. There was also a lot of gasoline on the ground.
“People were completely shocked. There was a boy, I think they got him out of a car.
“I heard that the truck driver may have had a heart attack behind the wheel.”
Detective Constable Neil Webb said: “This was a traumatic incident and my thoughts are with those involved and their loved ones.
“We are conducting extensive investigations into what happened, and I am eager to hear from witnesses and those with dash cameras or CCTV footage of the incident. Help us rebuild what happened. “
A Scotland Yard spokesperson added: “Police were called at approximately 8:05 am to Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, by London Ambulance
“Service to a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles and a building.
“An 11-year-old boy was taken to the hospital.
“His condition has been assessed as life threatening. Two men were taken to the hospital. We await an update on your condition.
“Sadly, a man has been pronounced dead at the scene.”
