Chris Hughes ruined his romance with Jesy Nelson on one of the most important nights of his career.
The Love Island star got into a fight with a snapper on the NTAs, which was the same night the pop star accepted a gong for his BBC documentary, Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out.
His glorious victory was overshadowed by his behavior when he got caught up in the snapper scandal.
That night, in late January, he arrived just two months before he emerged, the couple went their separate ways.
Chris got into a celebrity-filled off-site fight a few hours after Jesy’s first victory at the National Television Awards.
The two men were ripped apart after Chris stuck his finger in the dad’s face in a row over claims that the photographer called him “c ***”.
Jesy had watched and quietly climbed into the cab they were sharing at their home at the time.
It was an emotional night for the star after her documentary secured a huge victory at the award ceremony.
The heartbreaking series details the horrible online abuse Jesy received early in her Little Mix career.
Earlier in the evening, Jesy had credited her boyfriend Chris for giving him confidence.
“I’m so sorry, this is so overwhelming. I’m a baby! Thank you very much,” she cried on stage at the O2 Arena in London.
“I want to thank Chris, my boyfriend, for raising me every day and making me feel confident.
“I want to thank every person who voted. You have no idea what this means to me, to us. I don’t think we expected this reaction when we did …
“I am so grateful that such a negative experience in my life has turned into such a positive experience.”
Later, Chris entered into a furious tirade about “the nightmare” of the people who want to destroy him and Jesy after the fight.
He told television magazine The Sun: “We live in a world where people just want to destroy you. It is a nightmare.”
On the positive aspects of the night, she said: “Jesy spoke very well that night, she is a very attractive crier!
“She looks very pretty when she cries.”
