Moeen Ali Tested Positive For COVID-19 After Landing In Sri Lanka
England’s SUV Moeen Ali tested positive for coronavirus after landing in Sri Lanka.
The entire touring group was tested upon arrival in Sri Lanka on Sunday and following his positive test result, Ali will now isolate himself for 10 days.
The entire group of tourists had tested negative before departure.
Bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes will also isolate himself and face further trials after being considered a possible close contact.
A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) read: “Following PCR tests administered on arrival at Hambantota Airport on Monday 4th January, the England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that Moeen Ali gave positive for COVID-19.
Ali will now observe a 10-day period of self-isolation, in accordance with the Sri Lankan government’s quarantine protocol.

“Chris Woakes has been considered a possible close contact, and will see a period of self-isolation and further testing.
“The touring group will be tested by PCR for the second time on Tuesday morning. At this stage, the team will train for the first time on Wednesday.”

The first test of the two-game series begins in Galle on January 14, and while the isolation period should end the day before, it remains to be seen whether Ali or Woakes will be available for selection.
