And it doesn’t look terrible.
A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare player encountered a technical issue that allowed them to play in the third person.
The first-person shooter series typically never allows players to change the perspective of the player’s camera. But redditor Tkade14 found himself playing in the third person after a glitch of some sort during a resuscitation.
The following video shows Tkade14 running across the Shoot House map in PlayStation 4 exclusive third-person survival mode, slicing through AI enemies with a knife. As the character runs unrealistically, the movement looks fluid, and the camera position gives a decent view of the action, perfectly following the character even with slides and knife attacks. We see the soldier fire a pistol in the third person, too, after being shot down. There is no reticle, but we do see the red hit marker when Tkade14 lands a deadly shot.

So how did the failure happen? According to Tkade14, the failure occurred when they were being revived. In Modern Warfare, when a teammate revives your fallen character, the camera pauses briefly in the third person. Tkade14 said: “Once I revived, I did not go back to the first person.”
“Frankly, I would play a lot more survival if I could run like this all the time haha.”
The Modern Warfare series has (officially) dabbled in third person before. Modern Warfare 2’s Team Tactical mode allows players to play with the camera removed, giving it a Ghost Recon feel.
And Sledgehammer Games, the maker of Activision-owned Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: WW2, was working on a third-person Call of Duty game before it was canceled. The studio spent half a year on a prototype for a third-person game set during the Vietnam War in Cambodia, with unique mechanisms possible due to camera position.
