MO SALAH tested positive for coronavirus just days after attending his brother’s wedding in Egypt.
The 28-year-old Liverpool forward does not suffer any symptoms after testing positive with swab while on international duty, the Egyptian FA confirmed.
It’s the latest blow for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who no longer has a number of key players.
Salah, the Premier League’s top scorer this season with eight goals, will have to isolate himself for ten days, ruling him out of the clash with Leicester next Saturday.
The Egyptian star attended his brother Nasr’s wedding in Cairo on Tuesday and images surfaced on social media of the soccer star dancing among a small crowd of guests.
In several images taken at the ceremony, which was also attended by his international teammate and Aston Villa star Mahmoud Trezeguet, he was wearing a mask placed under his nose and around his chin.
The Egyptian FA initially announced that Salah was the only member of the Egyptian team to test positive before later revealing that three other players were being sent for further testing.
A statement on its website read: “A second swab was performed on Mohamed Salah and the result showed a positive case of coronavirus infection.
“All measures are being taken for this and the necessary international medical protocol for the case is being followed.
“The Egyptian star is very animated and does not show any of the usual symptoms.
“A special room has been set up for isolation and another room for medical follow-up, while the team doctor, Dr Muhammad Abu Al-Ela, communicates with Liverpool doctor Jim Moxon.”
They will now miss Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at home to Togo on Saturday and the reverse match on Tuesday.
Salah reportedly attended an award ceremony in his honor on Wednesday.
Amr El Ganainy, head of the standardization committee that heads the Egyptian Association, made it clear that his organization had done everything for the book in terms of taking care of Salah.
He said: “Did you get Covid for our ceremony and honor?
“Everything has been done in coordination with his agent and Liverpool. We did everything Liverpool asked ”.
The former Chelsea star is not the first global star to contract the virus after Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo tested positive while away with his national team in October.
Juventus forward Ronaldo hired a private ambulance to escape back to Italy and continue isolating himself at his home in Turin.
The result of Salah’s test is the latest Covid drama to hit football after England’s Premier League stars learned that Alan Browne of the Republic of Ireland, who played 90 minutes at Wembley on Thursday night, tested positive for the virus after the game.
The Three Lions won the friendly 3-0 thanks to goals from Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and a penalty from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but despite the scare, SunSport understands that the FA is not worried that someone will catch the virus during the match.
In September, Egypt allowed weddings to take place in open-air venues but with a limit of 300 guests and only in tourist and hotel facilities with health and safety certificates.
Salah is Liverpool’s FIFTH star to contract the virus after new Thiago, Sadio Mane, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita all tested positive in recent months.
The news will be another blow for Reds boss Klopp, who also saw Joe Gomez sustain a significant injury during this international break.
Gomez suffered a serious knee injury in England training on Wednesday and underwent “successful” hamstring surgery with Liverpool in hopes of making a comeback this season.
The Premier League champions face a growing injury crisis after Trent Alexander-Arnold retired from the Three Lions’ service with a calf problem.
The right-back suffered the injury during the 1-1 draw at Manchester City and is expected to miss four weeks after being sent off the field.
Dutch central talisman Virgil van Dijk is still months away from being fit after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in a controversial collision with England’s number one Jordan Pickford.
Initial fears suggested that Gomez may have suffered a similar injury.
The Reds just welcomed Joel Matip to their back line, but makeshift center-back Fabinho is out too.
Also missing are midfielders Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Liverpool have been forced to play 19-year-old Rhys Williams and last year’s outcast Nat Phillips already this season.
