Millionaire Senator Kelly Loeffler was mocked for an ad that said she knew what “it’s like to wait for that paycheck.”

Ms. Loeffler, struggling to keep her position in Georgia, is married to the president of the New York Stock Exchange, Jeffrey Sprecher.

She is reportedly the richest member of Congress with an estimated fortune between $ 800 million and $ 1 billion, according to Forbes.

She was appointed to the Senate seat in December 2019 by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp after Johnny Isakson resigned for health reasons.

Ms. Loeffler finished second in last month’s election and now faces a runoff in January against Raphael Warnock.

“It’s very important to have Senator Loeffler in the Senate, especially now. What we need more than ever is an entrepreneurial mind,” said former Georgia Republican Party Deputy Chairman Janelle King,

“We need someone who understands not only how to write paychecks and sign paychecks, but also how it feels to wait for that paycheck.”

Ms Loeffler and her husband were investigated for insider trading after making investment moves on January 24, the same day they received an intelligence report on the pandemic.

She was eventually cleared by Donald Trump’s Justice Department and the Republican-led Senate Ethics Committee.

“She is worth $ 500 million. She is the richest senator in America. She is competing against a man who grew up on projects,” said Twitter user Jason Patterson.

Ms. Loeffler’s Republican colleague, David Perdue, is also involved in a close race with Democrat Jon Ossoff.
