At least 22 people, most of them air cadets, were killed in a military plane crash in Ukraine, authorities said.

The plane, an Antonov-26, fell near the eastern city of Kharkiv on landing.

Two people were injured and a search operation for three missing persons continues until the night.

The plane went down about two kilometers (1.2 miles) from a military airport in the city of Chuhuiv, emergency ministry officials said.

A fire broke out at the site and then it was extinguished.

“It’s a shock,” Deputy Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko told the AFP news agency. “At the moment it is impossible to establish the cause.”

President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would travel to the region on Saturday and that a commission was being set up to investigate what happened.
