Michail Antonio believes Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion is another indicator of how West Ham United have progressed in the 2020/21 campaign.
Antonio scored the winning goal and his team secured a third win in a row, one that took them to seventh place in the Premier League table when the campaign reaches its halfway point.
The Hammers enjoyed clear dominance in the first half, grabbing 67 percent of the ball and leading 1-0 thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s spike, but West Brom leveled through a long-range attack from Matheus Pereira early in the second. period.
West Ham had to come back, and they did so with Antonio’s second goal of the week, giving him a broad smile on the final whistle.
“We started the season well and now we have 32 points in the league. Last season we only finished with 39,” he said.
“Every game we go out and give 100%. We didn’t get a clean sheet tonight, so we lost that, but we got another win, so we’ll go ahead and keep going.
“The crazy thing is that we are not playing at our best level [right now], but we are getting victories. Things are looking good and positive, and we can improve.
“We are getting results and this season is our season to do it. In the last few years we would have lost these types of games, but now we are polishing them, we continue, scoring and winning.
Antonio’s hit was the fifth of the season, and having also scored against Burnley on Saturday, the forward is delighted with how he has returned from a hamstring injury.
He added: “As a striker you want to be out there, you want to play and score goals and that’s what I’m doing right now. Hopefully I can continue like this.
“It’s incredible right now. This season the chemistry is very good in the team and you can see it on the field.”
