It could be mid-September, but Wales is set to enjoy temperatures of around 26 ° C as the summer heat returns.
Mercury will be highest in the southern parts of the UK, but most of the country will see a period of warmer weather in the coming days, the Met Office said.
“Much of England and Wales by [Monday] the afternoon will be dry, warm and sunny, although not even locally very warm ”, says the forecast, and there is the possibility of a maximum temperature of 30 ° C in the south-east of England.
Meteorological Office forecaster John Griffiths said: “On Tuesday, we’re still seeing highs of 30 somewhere in the southeast, maybe even a point of 31, but it will already be cooling in some areas of the southwest.”
There could be highs of 27 ° C or 28 ° C again on Wednesday, but as we head towards the end of the week, the heat will start to recede and temperatures will drop to 20 degrees in the warmer parts, Griffiths said. .
The meteorologist added: “It is not that unusual for this time of year, quite often we have warm periods in September.
But these temperatures will still be somewhat far from the highest temperature ever recorded in September, which was 35.6 ° C on September 2, 1906.
The September heat follows an August heat wave that saw highs of 34 ° C for six days in a row last month.
Welsh meteorologist Derek Brockway said temperatures reached 23 ° C in Cardiff on Sunday.
He said: “Sunnier on Monday and warmer with lighter winds. There will be 26 ° C in some places. Super sun in September!”
