Mesut Ozil affirms that “I wish I could help” Arsenal and opened up to the “very difficult” and “frustrating” of the club.

Ozil, 32, is in exile in the Emirates and has not appeared at the club since March, before the first national shutdown.

The Gunners have had a disastrous start to the season in the absence of the World Cup winner, with his tally of 14 points in 14 league games, his worst total since 1974/75.

Meanwhile, any hopes Arsenal had of reaching the final stages of the Carabao Cup were dashed on Tuesday night when Manchester City were left without dominating 4-1 victories in the Emirates.

Ozil acknowledged that it is a challenging time for everyone with a connection to the North London club, as he declared his desire to help them break out of the deadlock.

“The situation is frustrating for everyone. Of course, I wish I could help the team, especially now, but while I don’t have the opportunity, I just hope that we get better results very soon again.

“But let’s be positive.”

Ozil was not named to Arsenal’s teams for the Premier League or Europa League this season, although he may return to the fold in January.

The German playmaker has six months left on the lucrative contract he signed in January 2018, while Mikel Arteta declined to rule out a retirement earlier this month.

The Arsenal manager said: “He’s not in the team at the moment. I’m just focusing on the players we have here. But whatever happens in January, we have time to decide.”
