A French bulldog was shot and killed by a masked gunman in a shocking raid on a family home.

Two men, believed to be carrying shotguns, broke into a home in Litherland last night.

After searching the property, pushing a male to the ground in the process, they shot the dog before leaving.

Detectives are now requesting information after the Bowland Drive incident.

The men, dressed with their faces covered, broke in at 10:55 p.m.

A Merseyside police spokeswoman said: “One of the men pushed a man on the property to the ground while the second man searched the upper floor of the property.

Merseyside Police on Bowland Drive, Netherton.

“The second male came back and shot one of the family’s dogs, a French bulldog, fatally wounding him.” No one else was injured during the incident. The males then went off on an electric scooter. “

An investigation is ongoing and house-to-house and CCTV investigations have been conducted in the area.

Police said one of the men was described as white, of medium build, wearing a black hooded jacket, a black scarf covering his face, and dark North Face sweatpants.

They said the second man was also white, of medium build and wore dark clothing and a black beanie-style hat that covered his face.

In the wake of the attack, Detective Inspector Paul Parry said: “I am calling for anyone who was in the area around Bowland Drive around 11pm last night and who saw someone or something suspicious to contact us.

“Similarly, I would ask anyone who was driving through the area and who has captured something on the dash cam footage to get in touch as they may have information that is vital to our investigation.

“No person was injured during this incident, but a dog was killed and the actions of these two people show that they are clearly reckless and do not take into account the safety of people.

“Merseyside Police are committed to getting guns and the people who use them off the streets and we want the public to come up and help us by telling us who they are.”
