Two men who were filmed beating a 38-year-old victim at the entrance to a department store may have traveled to Liverpool from Manchester, Merseyside police say.

Distressing mobile phone footage shows two men kicking and beating the man on Basnett Street in Liverpool city center in front of Christmas shoppers yesterday.

The two attackers then turn away from the victim, but return to hurl insults at him. Then a group of shoppers yell at the men to leave.

One of the attackers appears to yell “Manchester Manchester” to the crowd before walking away.

A Merseyside police spokesman now confirmed that the force is requesting information after a man was assaulted in Liverpool city center on Sunday, December 21.

In a statement shared with ECHO, the spokesperson said: “The victim, a 38-year-old man from Liverpool, was reported to have been spat on and assaulted by three men on Basnett Street around 5.40pm.
