Meghan Markle says ‘sometimes the best decisions for the family are not the popular ones’

Meghan Markle appeared to defend her and Prince Harry’s decision to give up royal life saying that “sometimes making the best decision for you and your family may not be the most popular.”

The Duchess of Sussex, speaking from her home in Santa Barbra, California, made the remarks during an interview for the Summit of Fortune’s Next Generation of Most Powerful Women.

The 39-year-old royalty alluded to his family’s highly publicized move to his hometown of Los Angeles earlier this year, saying: “My faith is greater than my fear.”

She told Fortune journalist Emma Hinchliffe: “When you really know who you are and you know what your belief system is and you live by the truth, then I think that can start to peel off the layers of where fear comes in.

“If you live knowing the truth, regardless of what others say, you can go to sleep with a clear conscience.

“Most people fear the unknown, but sometimes that leap is necessary.”

During the talk, Meghan Markle also expressed her concern about social media becoming an “addiction” and revealed that she has not used a personal account for a long time.

She added: “I have made a personal decision not to have any accounts, so I don’t know what there is and that helps me in many ways.

“I have a lot of concerns for people who have become obsessed with it and it is such an important part of our daily culture for so many people that it is an addiction.

Meghan also spoke about the dangers of social media.

“Like many others, and as you know, there are very few things in this world where the person who is interacting with it is called a user.

“People addicted to drugs are called users and people who are on social media are called users and there is something algorithmically creating this obsession and I think it is very unhealthy for a lot of people.”

It turned out that the virtual summit, which would be held entirely online, would charge guests $ 1,750 (£ 1,342) to attend.

An ad for the event reads: “How do you lead with your values? Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, shares how she learned, in her words, to pursue her convictions with action.”

“The Duchess will tell our Next Gen community how she leads on the global stage.”

Earlier this month, Meghan spoke about the “almost insurmountable” abuse she has received online as “the most trolled person in the world.”

The comments were made during an appearance with Prince Harry on a podcast to mark World Mental Health Day.

Meghan said, “If you’re not in school, then you find yourself more on your devices or online, right? And there’s a lot of vulnerability there that I think a lot of people are experiencing.”

“Yeah, it’s a great way to connect, but it also ends up being a place where there is a lot of disconnection, you know, I can speak personally.
