Meghan Markle reportedly “didn’t understand what she had gotten into” by marrying Prince Harry and was taken aback by the enthusiasm of royal fans, a source said.

Ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey that airs today, insiders have shared what they believe led to the couple’s split from the royal family.

Speaking to The Times, a source said the former Suits actress “didn’t understand” when a frenzied crowd turned up to welcome her and Prince Harry on their royal visit to Australia.

The source claimed that seeing hordes of fans waiting outside the Sydney Opera House, Meghan told the team: “What is everyone doing here? It’s silly. “

“They told me: ‘They are here because they admire and support a monarch and an institution they represent.’

The tour, a time-honored royal tradition dating back to 1867, saw Meghan, 39, and Harry, 36, visit Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji just one day after announcing their first pregnancy.

At the time, the tour was hailed as a success with large crowds flocking eager to see the newlyweds.

The source’s claims come on a busy week for the royal family, which has seen Meghan deny allegations that she intimidated palace staff.

Last week, Buckingham Palace broke with tradition to make a public statement saying it was “very concerned” by reports that Meghan had expelled two personal assistants.

The royal “bullying” saga took a stunning turn last night when it emerged that Prince William’s wife, Kate, could help investigate Meghan.

The former aides are ready to claim that the Duchess of Cambridge witnessed Meghan’s “defiant behavior.”

But now 39-year-old Kate could be questioned in a formal investigation into alleged harassment by the Duchess of Sussex Meghan.

Meanwhile, sources close to Meghan and Harry have said the allegations have been timed to “undermine” their reveal with Oprah today.

The Duchess, in the interview preview clips, criticized the limitations she found herself as a member of royalty.

Meghan has also accused The Firm of “perpetuating falsehoods” about her and Harry.

The Duchess said it was “liberating” to be able to access the interview with the American television presenter, an option that she says was denied while representing the Crown.

Meghan’s spokesperson has said she was “saddened” by the claims and said her focus was now on “generating compassion around the world.”

The spokesperson said: “The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been bullied and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.

“She is determined to continue her work generating compassion around the world and will continue to strive to set an example of doing what is right and doing what is good.”

Ahead of Oprah’s interview, Meghan’s friends have come out in support of the former actress, who is expecting her second child.

Former Suits co-star Patrick Adams launched a fierce defense of ‘powerful woman’ Meghan, calling the royalty “toxic.”
