Masked man threatens merchant with ‘big knife’ before stealing cash

A merchant was “extremely shocked” after a masked man with a large knife demanded cash from him last night.

Officers said a man broke into the store on Westminster Road in Ellesmere Port around 8:30 p.m. and threatened the store worker before stealing money and fleeing on foot.

The man from the newsstand store who escaped was not injured in the attack.

Detectives investigating the knifepoint robbery today released CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to.

Officers said the masked man escaped on foot from the store onto Grace Road, passing cars waiting at traffic lights approaching Station Road.

Ellesmere Port CID Detective Tim Cope said: “It is understandable that this incident left the store worker extremely shocked.

“We are determined to establish who committed the armed robbery and bring him to justice.

“As part of our ongoing investigations, we have released CCTV footage of a man who we believe may have vital information to aid in our investigation.
