Marcus Rashford has been the talk of the country off the field and once again showed his prowess on it.
In a week in which the England international has gathered support in his bid to take on the government in the fight to provide free meals to underprivileged school children, he also scored a wonderful hat-trick in the Champions League.
Told to “stick to football” and accused by some of “pointing out virtue”, Rashford showed his powers in multitasking, proving that it is possible to be an activist as well as a scorer, stepping off the bench to score his first hat. -trick senior for Manchester United in the 5-0 win over RB Leipzig.
The 22-year-old didn’t arrive until shortly after the hour, but then scored three times in 16 minutes in a virtuous display of clinical completion.
Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Marcus has shown that he can continue to focus on what is important on and off the field right now. He did very well today off the bench.”
It has been a whole month for the forward, honored with an MBE and seeing that his petition to end child food poverty exceeds one million signatures.

When asked if there had been an argument, Rashford said, “A little, a little. I feel confident that Anthony will take them too. So no problem.”
But there was still time for Rashford to score his third and become the second United player, after boss Solskjaer, to score a triplet as a substitute.
“I think the coach wanted me to pick up the pace,” he said. “That for us means moving on. There were definitely spaces there.”
Former Premier League forward Chris Sutton called Rashford “a brilliant footballer and a brilliant person” on BBC Radio 5 Live, while the player’s campaign has been supported by his club, which he plans to distribute. 5,000 cooked meals to local school children this week.
Sutton described the Red Devils forward as “already a superior player,” adding that “he looked so much better when he came in.”
At the end of the game, a man dedicated to improving people’s lives had no fans to raise his hand to in celebration, receiving only a pat on the back from his teammates, before walking through the tunnel with the ball from match.
All three goals came in front of a deserted Stretford End, which would normally have been rebounding with the return of Champions League football to Old Trafford.
Former United Rio defender Ferdinand described Rashford as “far above Leipzig”.
He added: “It’s on fire. It’s been on the front of the papers for all the right reasons, and tomorrow it will be on the back of them.
“It’s like being on the playground with an ex-sixth player against the younger kids and he just bullies everyone, too fast and too hard.
“He made some defenders, who we were excited about before the game, look like schoolboys tonight.”
