Persistent rain will affect vast areas of the UK today, according to the latest Met Office forecast. The agency has issued a series of weather advisories amid the threat of flooding across the country this weekend. The amber warnings are in effect for Scotland’s east coast today, stretching from Aberdeen to Dundee, as the Met Office warned that “houses and businesses are likely to flood, causing damage to some buildings.”
There is also a second amber warning for much of Wales and parts of South West England, including Gloucester, Bath and Bristol towards Exeter, Bournemouth and Weymouth.
The warning reads: “A band of rain will move slowly and will be heavy across Wales, the West Midlands and into the southwest of England. This is likely to lead to flooding and some travel disruptions.
“Many places will see 25-50mm of rain, with a total of 70-90mm expected on higher ground in Wales and South West England, as well as the potential for more than 120mm on some of the more exposed high ground. of Snowdonia and Exmoor.
“The unusual wind direction associated with the rain will mean that maximum rainfall totals are likely to occur in some areas that are generally well protected and drier during periods of unstable weather.”

Much of the UK will also see heavy rain on Sunday, with a yellow weather warning from 3am today until noon on Sunday, October 4.
The Met Office forecast reads: “Heavy rains will push north and west across the UK on Saturday, becoming slow and persistent and will last from Saturday night to Sunday in eastern Scotland, much of Wales and the west of England “.
Weather maps this weekend show that parts of eastern Scotland or areas under the amber warning, such as Snowdonia, could see up to four inches of rain this weekend.
Rain is expected to be heaviest until 6 a.m. tomorrow in areas under an amber warning.
However, charts from WXCharts show that gloomy weather will only get worse in the coming days.
While the weather maps for Monday through Wednesday of next week show that the rain has dissipated, for Thursday it’s a different story.
More rain is expected to arrive on October 8-9 as a new low-pressure system heads towards Britain, predominantly hitting the east coast of Scotland.
Meteorological Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Laura Ellam said: “Saturday will be a very wet and cold day for many as heavy bands of rain push north and west across the country, slowing down in some parts. Conditions will improve for many on Sunday, although some are likely to remain wet and windy. “
He added: “There is an increased risk of flooding and very difficult driving conditions this weekend. In areas with Amber warnings, such as Snowdonia, Exmoor and eastern Scotland, more than 100mm of rain could fall over the weekend; this is likely to cause significant flood impacts. “

Where are the flood warnings and alerts installed?
There is currently a flood warning as of 10am Saturday October 3 – Dorset shoreline at Swanage Bay.
A flood warning means that floods are expected and residents should take immediate action to protect themselves and their homes.
Carol Holt, Flood Service Manager for the Environment Agency, said: “Widespread and persistent heavy rains are likely to cause flooding in some areas over the weekend. Today, floods are also possible in parts of southern England.
“The Environment Agency teams have been working hard to clean the grills and screens in the areas that may be affected.
“We urge people to stay away from swollen rivers and not drive through flood water – it is often deeper than it appears and just 12 inches of running water is enough to float your car.”

- Beverley Brook area in Merton, Sutton, Kingston upon Thames, Richmond upon Thames and Wandsworth
- Eastern yar
- Rivers of Exmoor
- Isle of Sheppey and coastline from Kemsley to Seasalter
- Lower Avon and tributaries
- Lower Exe Area
- Tributaries of the Lower Lee
- Exe median area
- Ravensbourne area in the London boroughs of Lewisham, Bromley, Greenwich and Croydon
- River Bourne from Hadlow to East Peckham
- River Hogsmill area from Ewell to Kingston upon Thames
- Pinn River Creek and Woodridings
- River Rythe from Oxshott to Thames Ditton
- Rivers Beam and Rom
- River Wandle area in the London boroughs of Wandsworth, Merton, Lambeth, Croydon and Sutton
- Shuttle and Cray
- Silk Stream and the deans, Edgware, Dollis, Mutton and Wealdstone Brooks
- The tidal rivers Bure, Ant and Thurne
- Tidal Thames riverside from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir
- Upper River Mole, Ifield Brook, Gatwick Stream, Burstow Stream, and Salfords Stream
