Man’s body found ‘on fire’ on South London highway in ‘unexplained’ death

The body of a man has been found “lit” on a road in Mitcham shortly after 6 am.

The Metropolitan Police are investigating the man’s death as inexplicable and forensics have been seen examining the scene today.

The force said officers were called to the scene after reports were made with concerns for someone’s safety.

Officers were dispatched to the scene, and upon reaching Commonside East, they discovered the body of a man who was described as “lit.”

Police say they are trying to locate the man’s closest relatives.

Witnesses say forensic police officers and firefighters have been on the scene throughout the day looking for evidence that could shed light on what happened.

Tania Marszalek, 39, who lives on the road where the body was found, told the Sun: ‘My dogs woke me up around 6 a.m.

“ It bothered me that I was woken up before my alarm and I looked outside to see what was going on; I saw a police officer tying a cord of red tape to the rear view mirror of my car.

‘I immediately wanted to know what was going on and asked the officers who didn’t tell me much at all.

“There are people on the street who say that a guy was found at the end of the street on fire after being mutilated, he was still alive when they found him.”
