Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been open to belief in the Old Trafford locker room after the 2-1 win over Aston Villa. United are now tied on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

Wan-Bissaka provided the assist for the game’s opener as he made Anthony Martial head home in the 40th minute.

Aston Villa returned to the game and tied in the 58th minute through Bertrand Traore.

United received a controversial penalty immediately afterward, when Paul Pogba fell into the box on minimal contact.

Bruno Fernandes was not wrong with the penalty shot to tie Liverpool on points at the top of the table.

Wan-Bissaka was delighted with the victory and opened up to the belief that United now has.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Paul Pogba for his performance against Villa.

The World Cup winner seemed to return to his best as he dominated the midfield.

He said: “He’s getting better and better. I think he played well today. They are a physical side and Paul is one of those guys who can control it for us.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m delighted with the three points and the performance, but there are always things to improve. Those two extra points are important.

“We have improved. I think the league and the season are going to be very tight. We just have to keep working and improving as a team.”

“Every time you win a game you go one step further. You just have to accumulate points. They all count the same.

“We have a great game on Wednesday against City, I’m not even thinking [about playing Liverpool] still.”

United will return to action next Wednesday when they play the Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
