Now it has emerged that the Red Devils have made some progress in negotiating agent fees.

However, Solskaer’s side remains locked in talks with Dortmund about a transfer fee after an initial £ 70 million offer was rejected, increasing to £ 110 million in bonds.

United, who have only brought in midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax for £ 39 million this summer so far, have not given up on Sancho.

And after being asked by Radio Five Live if he would be okay without further additions, he appeared to warn the Bundesliga team that his team will not pay a ransom for the 20-year-old.

Solskjaer said: “I am very happy to work with these players and the team.

“We always try to improve and see if there is any possible way to improve this team and bring in players who have the right level of quality, the right personality and all the right criteria.

“We all know that this summer and this year has been very strange and it is important that everyone understands that this has an effect on football and not everyone can spend millions and millions and new millions.”

The Norwegian added: “It is never easy to have too many new players on the team, it takes time for the players to become units.

“We have seen some clubs go for a quick fix and get players, some trust the process and the continuation of the process and training.

“We will have to achieve results, our response has to be to improve, to achieve results but also to add players with different qualities than what we have, things that we need.

“When we signed Bruno, we knew we needed that kind of player. Now we have signed Donny and he is the type of player that I felt we needed.

“He is the type of person who will fit into the culture and the team and make us better for the next season and for years to come.”

United remain interested in signing a new center-back, with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano in Solskjaer’s crosshairs.

He would also like a left-back, with Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilón in his sights after an impressive loan loss at Sevilla.

United had also been eyeing Porto’s Alex Telles, but Wolves are believed to be closing in on a deal for the Brazilian.
