Manchester United will look to cash in on Paul Pogba before his contract expires in 2022 after the Frenchman had candid talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about his position at the club.
Mino Raiola, Pogba’s agent, confirmed on Monday that the Frenchman’s time at the club was ‘over’ as he was ‘unhappy’ at the Theater of Dreams.
Pogba’s current deal expires in 2022 after United activated an option to extend his contract for a further 12 months and the Frenchman was upset that the club didn’t even open discussions about signing a new deal.
The 27-year-old lost his starting position to Solskjaer and was left out of the starting eleven in Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to RB Leipzig, which eliminated United from the Champions League.
The Daily Mail claims that Pogba has since spoken to Solskjaer about his decision to leave him out of such a crucial match and while the meeting was harmonious, the Frenchman still intends to leave the club.
Pogba is said to have a good relationship with Solskjaer, but the Norwegian was furious with Raiola for the timing of his comments, as they came on the eve of such an important match.
United had wanted to extend Pogba’s contract in the summer, but the fact that they have not opened negotiations suggests that there has been a change of mind.
Pogba is likely now looking for an outing to Juventus in January, as he has long had ambitions to return to Turin.
The Frenchman would have 18 months to execute on his deal should he leave in January, but United’s valuation may put the old lady off, especially at a time of such financial difficulty.
United is said to want to recoup much of the 89 million pounds they paid for Pogba in 2016 and believe its business appeal means they are likely to get their valuation.
Donny van de Beek was hired from Ajax for a £ 40 million fee in the summer as a replacement for Pogba should he leave, but United is likely to return to the market next summer for another midfielder if the Frenchman get your wish to leave.
