MANCHESTER UNITED has landed exciting teenage prospect Amad Traore in a £ 37 million deal.
The club completed the transfer of the 18-year-old winger from Atalanta just two hours before the transfer deadline.
Work permit problems mean that he won’t join the club until January.
The deal is worth £ 19 million up front with another £ 18 million to come based on appearances and achievements.
United have searched for Traore for four years as he passed through the academy of the Serie A club, which is considered one of the best in Italy.
Just as good with both feet, he can play on either wing.
Traore scored just four minutes after his league debut last October, after coming in as a substitute in the 79th minute in a 7-1 home win over Udinese.
The Ivorian made just three top flight appearances for Italy last season, but was being watched by several of Europe’s best clubs.
United were first alerted to his talent in 2016 when a scout reported on his performance in an under-15 game.
The signing is in no way seen as a threat to current players like Mason Greenwood, but rather as a boost to the roster.
As it stands, Greenwood will eventually go on to fill the role of center forward.
The moves come after United failed to reach a deal to sign Jadon Sancho, 20, from Borussia Dortmund.
In addition, they were only going to try to get Ousmane Dembélé on loan from Barcelona, while the Spanish giants wanted a permanent move.
Earlier in the deadline day, the Red Devils secured the £ 15.3 million signing of Porto left-back Alex Telles.
The Brazilian said: “Joining a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a great honor.
“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to put on the famous jersey.”
