Man City Player Ratings: John Stones and Bernardo Silva Good vs Marseille – Simon Bajkowski

[ad_1]

Steffen: A nice outing with Ederson given a break, making some important saves as the team slackened towards the end of the first half. 7

Walker: Quite solid on his return to full-back, with a stinging shot that put the visiting goalkeeper to the test and good game awareness when he was last man. 7

Garcia: A surprise starter for some, Garcia was perfectly fine until he fell unopposed midway through the first half and had to be substituted. 6

Laporte: No mistakes, which is all Guardiola has asked for, and his left foot was an advantage for City to come out of defense. However, he is not as impressive as the Stones. 7

Ake: He was selected by Marseille in an unusual position and appeared vulnerable at times, but he also showed defensive strength and a willingness to advance. 7

Fernandinho: Much better from the veteran since returning from injury, enjoying the ability to break the game and dictate the pace while protecting the defense. 7

Gundogan: Another impressive display of a player who thrives in the Champions League, combining defensive poise with attacking threat. Hooked on the break with the derby in mind? 7

Bernard: City’s most spirited player, he was packed with a smart run that helped the hosts dominate. Recent signs are encouraging after an indifferent start to the season. 8

Towers: The scorer of the first goal of the match, but otherwise was unable to upset the Marseille defense. Agüero’s return should take him to a more natural position. 6

Foden: A brilliant start quickly faded before he seemed more comfortable playing central midfield in the second half. He took a good corner for Agüero’s goal. 6

Mahrez: He did not always make the best decisions but his commitment was total and it was his quality that put the ball on a plate for Torres. 7

Substitutes

Stones (for Garcia, 28): He showed his greatest confidence by getting the ball out of defense regularly and was also excellent in his own box. 8

Sterling (for Gundogan, 46): He occupied a familiar position on the left wing during the second half and scored a last-minute touch. 6

Agüero (by Mahrez, 66): He did not touch the ball for ten minutes and then appeared with a tap-in. 7

Not used: Carson, Dias, Mendy, Cancelo, Doyle, Palmer, Barnabas, Nmecha, De Bruyne, Jesus
