A 60-year-old man has been charged with reckless and guilty conduct after two illegal meetings were held in Edinburgh.

Police said both occurred outside the Scottish Parliament and in the surrounding areas on Saturday 5 and Thursday 10 September.

Police said the meetings “were held in opposition to Covid-19 restrictions.”

Superintendent David Robertson said that law enforcement was the last resort.

“Officers attended these two meetings to help ensure public safety and to remind attendees to adhere to the current guidelines,” he said.

“We interact with various people and encourage them to comply with the law.”

He said officers would use the powers at their disposal when required.

“We ask people to take personal responsibility and remember that the purpose of these measures is to help the collective effort to stay safe, protect others and save lives by preventing the virus from spreading,” he added.
