Lucas Torreira’s agent has confirmed that Atlético de Madrid does not have a purchase option on his loan by the Arsenal midfielder.
The Uruguayan completed his stint with Diego Simeone on the day of the deadline, while the Gunners signed Thomas Partey after activating his 50 million euro (45.3 million pound) buyout clause with Atlético.
Fiorentina and Torino had also explored the possibility of signing Torreira earlier in the window.
But Torreira’s agent, Pablo Bentancur, has revealed that the midfielder intended to sign for Atlético and did not want to consider other options.
However, Atlético have no option to buy on their season loan to Torreira and could therefore be forced to pay a high price next summer if they impress during their time at Simeone.
“Lucas’s operation was very complicated,” Bentancur told Sport890.
“We had other agreed teams like Roma, Fiorentina and Lazio, who play the Champions League, but Lucas was direct. He told us that his goal was Atlético and that we achieved it for him and we worked for the players.
He closed all other possibilities, either, ‘yes or yes’ to Atlético. Luckily, in the end it was done.
‘They have agreed to a one-year loan without a purchase option and the price is not defined, it will depend on their performance.
“There is no option to buy because Arsenal had to pay the clause for Thomas.”
