Lorraine Kelly accidentally confirmed that EastEnders star Maisie Smith is confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing, ahead of her big reveal just over an hour later on This Morning.

The 60-year-old host had previously confirmed that JJ Chalmers was the seventh contestant confirmed for the lineup.

But when she spoke to BBC soap star James Bye, she seemed to forget that Maisie’s name had yet to be announced on ITV.

After questioning the Martin Fowler actor about his return to Albert Square, he moved on to the subject of Strictly.

Lorraine said, “Look, everyone is talking about Strictly right now and I know one of your co-stars, Maisie, this is Tiffany, of course she has signed on for Strictly Come Dancing. Are you tempted, James? Is that something that would you ever think? “

He responded by saying, “Well it’s funny because while I was waiting to continue and you were joking about who was going to continue Strictly, I just got a text message from my mother saying, ‘I thought you were going to continue Strictly!”

“That’s brilliant,” Lorraine laughed.

But viewers were distracted by the fact that Lorraine had shown up to confirm Maisie before the official reveal.

One tweeted: “I didn’t think Maisie Smith was confirmed for @bbcstrictly #lorraine.”

While another commented: “Maisie was not confirmed … until now #Lorraine! #Strictly”.

A third wrote: “Well done James for pretty much confirming that Maisie Smith joins #Strictly #lorraine.”
