The Mayor of London has continued to warn of the rapid rise in COVID-19 infections across London, demanding that the Government impose new restrictions as a method of trying to control the pandemic in the city. Earlier this week, Khan warned that London will inevitably pass a “trigger point” to enter the highest level 2 coronavirus restrictions, a move that was confirmed by Health Secretary Matt Hancock just 48 hours later in the House of Commons.
The mayor of London accepted the measure to increase restrictions in the capital, warning that “it is better to act sooner than to act too late.”
Now, Mr. Khan has led another subtle dig at the government while again demanding additional targeted support to help businesses operating in the nighttime economy.
He was reacting to a report that 105 nightclubs in London have joined forced to warn the government that more than half of them could be forced to close permanently in a month if they don’t get additional help.
The Mayor tweeted: “London’s nightclubs and nightlife economy were thriving before COVID-19. As the government imposes new restrictions on London, I also call for additional targeted support to help these vital businesses survive.”
But these comments sparked a furious reaction, with one person furious: “I’m gasping for double talk.
“From a mayor who is molested and harassed to increase restrictions in London. Now he reacts against the consequences and blames the government.
“The Tories have a lot that we should hold them accountable for, but Labor can’t help but take responsibility for this.”
Another irate person tweeted: “The best and the brightest live in London. They will see through this gas lighting.

“It was you who asked for tougher restrictions!
“It was about time that he faced up to his responsibilities and looked for an alternative solution instead of blaming others for his failures.”
Earlier this week, Khan supported the Government’s decision to move London to Level 2 of the new lockdown system.
But he also called on the government to provide immediate financial support to affected businesses, local authorities and “vulnerable Londoners struggling to survive.”
The Mayor of London said: “Time and again it has been shown that it is better to act sooner than to act too late.
“I am not willing to put the lives of Londoners at risk and we must do everything possible to minimize the economic damage.”
“I know these additional restrictions will require Londoners to make even more sacrifices, but the disastrous failure of the test, trace and isolation system leaves us few options.”
