Witnesses have reported hearing “gunshots” during an armed police siege in and around Anlaby Road on Tuesday night.

Although the police have not confirmed details about the incident, at least two witnesses reported hearing “some blows” and “shots” during the incident, which began around 9pm.

Several people who live in apartments on and around Cambridge Street have said officers are preventing people from entering or leaving apartment blocks.

About 20 people were also told not to leave The Lair pub on Anlaby Road as police closed the surrounding area.

A staff member at The Lair said customers had seen officers outside and gone to take a look, before being told to “get in” and stay away from windows.

Another local resident said the roads around Cambridge Street had been blocked by officers, with “loads of police” in the area.

They also said that Pease Street and St Lukes Street were affected.

Humberside police have been contacted for comment.
