Harry Redknapp believes that Premier League champions Liverpool should have completed a deadline deal for Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Alisson, Liverpool’s first-choice forward, suffered a shoulder injury in training last week and missed Sunday’s extraordinary 7-2 loss to Aston Villa.

Alisson’s substitute Adrian has struggled when called up and made another mistake when Villa surprised Jurgen Klopp’s team.

With Alisson potentially facing another six weeks out, former Tottenham manager Redknapp is surprised Liverpool haven’t signed another goalkeeper and says they could have targeted Romero.

Argentine international Romero has made just seven Premier League appearances for Manchester United since joining the club in 2015 and his wife criticized Ed Woodward on the deadline for preventing him from leaving.

Speaking about Romero’s future on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: ‘You would have thought he could have gone to Liverpool.

Liverpool need a goalkeeper. They need one more goalkeeper than Everton (which was also linked to the Manchester United goalkeeper).

“If Alisson is out for a while, he could be vital for Liverpool. They will need to make sure they have good backup because it looks like he could be out for a long time. ‘

Romero played as a backup to David de Gea at Old Trafford last season, but Dean Henderson has gotten ahead of the Argentine after returning from his stint on loan at Sheffield United.

Speaking of Alisson’s injury over the weekend, Liverpool manager Klopp said: “It was an incident in training; very bad luck.

‘Two players collide with each other; one gets up, one doesn’t. The one who didn’t get up was Ali.

“We don’t know 100 percent, but he can’t play today. We have more evaluations to do but he’s injured, let me put it that way. Now we hope it will be very fast.

‘It is an international break. I’m pretty sure after that he won’t be ready, so we have to watch week after week. ‘
