A woman who killed seven-year-old Emily Jones in a park on Mother’s Day will be sentenced.
Eltiona Skana, 30, previously pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was found not guilty of murder in a seven-day trial that ended when the prosecution decided to drop the charge.
In the course of proceedings at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, jurors heard that the 30-year-old had grabbed Emily while riding her scooter towards her mother in Queen’s Park, Bolton, on Mother’s Day , March 22nd.
Skana then cut the girl in the neck with one hand and threw her to the ground before attempting to flee the scene.
Emily was pronounced dead about two hours later despite the best efforts of paramedics and Salford Royal Hospital staff.
Her attacker suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and may have been experiencing a psychotic episode, the court heard during the trial.
He is currently a patient at Rampton Hospital, a high security facility in Nottinghamshire, and has appeared in court via video link.
Skana will be sentenced today on Minshull Street, and proceedings will begin at 11:30 a.m. M.
