Snow has fallen on Merseyside, leaving some areas of our region covered in a layer of white.

People across the region have woken up to the white matter this morning after an overnight weather warning.

An area of rain, sleet and snow moved south overnight Sunday causing icy surfaces and some travel disruptions.

The Met Office followed this up with a yellow snow and ice weather advisory that is in place until 10 am today.

They warned: “Rain can turn into snow, which, along with widespread ice, will lead to potential disruptions to travel and utilities …

“Localized accumulations of 1-3 cm are possible at lower levels, but larger accumulations are likely to accumulate on higher ground. Above 250 meters, accumulations of 5-10 cm are possible.

Stay up-to-date with the weather forecast in your area:

“While the skies are expected to clear from the north overnight, patches of ice are likely to develop and persist through Monday morning.”

The chilly temperatures follow several days of wintry weather during the Christmas period that led to flooding before Storm Bella hit on Boxing Day with winds of more than 100 mph.

As of 4am Monday, 103 flood warnings were still in effect across England calling for immediate action in advance of the anticipated floods, along with 193 flood alerts.
