Curtis Jones’ double has led him to five senior goals for Liverpool

Liverpool thrashed League One Lincoln to prepare for a Carabao Cup fourth round tie with Arsenal next week.

Xherdan Shaqiri hit a good free kick in the top corner to put them ahead.

Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones scored twice as the second-row Reds advanced, with 41 million pounds Diogo Jota, one of three debutants in the game.

Tayo Edun threw one back, Marko Grujic added a sixth for Liverpool, Lewis Montsma scored for Lincoln and Divock Origi got the Reds seventh.

Liverpool made their debuts with defenders Rhys Williams and Kostas Tsimikas, and the former Wolves forward Jota entered the second half.

Most of his goals were excellent. After Shaqiri’s free kick, Minamino settled in from outside the box and the teenage Jones scored with Origi’s muffled header.

Jones then scored via a slight detour to give the Reds an impregnable 4-0 lead at halftime.

Lincoln boss Michael Appleton would certainly have been pleased with his team’s endurance in the second half, especially after Minamino scored a volley seconds after the restart.

The Imps had won their first five games this season (including a penalty shootout) and had several chances before Edun’s goal from an Anthony Scully cross.

Scoring was not finished yet. Grujic shot from 20 yards, Montsma scored for the third consecutive EFL Cup tie, with a header off the crossbar, and Origi crashed off a Minamino pass.
