The Prime Minister is set to announce new rules in Wales to limit the number of people who can meet indoors to six.
The strict measure, which follows the ‘rule of six’ announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday and Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland on Thursday, is designed to control a sharp increase in coronavirus cases and protect public health in Wales. .
Mark Drakeford will set the rule changes, which will go into effect in Wales on Monday, later today (Friday 11 September).
The new limit of six people, who must all belong to the same extended family group, will only apply indoors.
The Welsh government said there will be no changes to the current rules, which allow up to four households to form an exclusive extended home in Wales, and that there will be no changes to the rules on outdoor gatherings.
A Welsh government spokesman said more details would be revealed on Friday.
The changes come the same week that Caerphilly County Township became the first place in Wales to enter a local lockdown and Merthyr and Rhondda Cynon Taf residents were asked to adhere to stricter restrictions.
The rise in confirmed cases has been linked to people meeting and socializing with other people indoors, but without social distancing, says the Government of Wales.
The new changes will apply to all of Wales except the Caerphilly County Council area. The local lockdown will continue to apply in Caerphilly, where restrictions include a suspension of extended home gatherings indoors.
On Wednesday, Johnson announced a ban on gatherings of groups of more than six people from up to six households in England, filing indoor and outdoor applications starting next Monday.
Nicola Sturgeon, Prime Minister of Scotland, introduced a stricter version of Boris Johnson’s “rule of six” for meetings in Scotland on Thursday, limiting meetings to groups of six of just two households that would be indoors and outdoors. even in private gardens.
