Nine new positive coronavirus results were obtained in the latest round of Premier League testing.

Last week, the Premier League announced 10 new cases, the highest number of positive results confirmed by the league after a round of testing.

Liverpool have announced in the last seven days that midfielder Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane self-isolated after testing positive for Covid-19.

A statement from the Premier League on Monday night read: “The Premier League can confirm today that between Monday, September 28 and Sunday, October 4, 1,587 players and club staff were tested for Covid-19. Of these, there were nine new positive tests.

“Players or club staff who have tested positive will be isolated for a period of 10 days.

“The Premier League provides this aggregated information for the purpose of ensuring the integrity and transparency of the competition. The league will not provide specific details on clubs or individuals and the results will be made public after each round of testing. ”
