Ask for more local control over Test and Trace
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has called for councils to have more control over Test and Trace to reduce the number of Covid-19 infections in the region.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s PM program, he said: “We don’t want these regulations to be in place in the long term.
“We have to plan an exit strategy and we have to move from general regulations, which are a blunt instrument that affects everyone, to a much more sophisticated and specific approach: door-to-door teams that perform testing and tracking.”

Leeds ‘Bubbles Under’ Coronavirus Watch List As Infection Rate Rises
Leeds’ top official warned that the city is “bubbling under” the national Covid-19 watch list.
Leeds City Council Executive Director Tom Riordan said he did not believe the city was yet at a stage where it would have to consider introducing local lockdown measures, such as those seen in Kirklees, Bradford and Calderdale in recent weeks. , but he noticed the case rate in the city was on the rise.
He said: “Our testing rates are very high right now, which is good because that’s what we have to do to stay on top of things.
“Our case rate is now in our mid-20s, so it’s 25 or 26 at our seven-day daily rate.
“We are on the radar for the national gold gathering, but we are not yet at a stage where we are likely to need movement restrictions, in our opinion, as our neighboring councils have had to do.”
The latest figures from Leeds have been released and show that the infection rate is increasing.
Leeds had an infection rate of 31.4 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days through Aug. 29. That is 249 new cases.
