Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa said his team didn’t deserve to win afterwards 1-1 draw with Manchester City in another Premier League thriller.

Raheem Sterling put City ahead early in the first half and Leeds’ record-breaking £ 27m signing Rodrigo set the tie at home in the second period.

Those from Bielsa were in danger of being run over in the first half hour before standing up and taking the game to City after the break.

“It would not have been fair if we had won this game,” Bielsa said. “It was possible to have won this game, but it would not have been fair.

“We had to find an immense physical effort to be on par, or a little better than City for half a game.

“And we had to survive the beginning of the first half and the end of the second half.”

Kevin De Bruyne’s 30-yard free throw hit a post in the early exchanges as Pep Guardiola’s team camped out on the Leeds field, while Rodrigo also saw two attempts on the wood, the second superbly off the crossbar by Ederson.

“We did our part to make the game beautiful and City also played a very important role in making the game beautiful,” said Bielsa, whose team moved up to fifth place on the table.

“They are a very powerful team. Physically, mentally and technically. They play with a natural inclination to attack and are the type of team that goes out to win the game.

Rodrigo, a substitute for Tyler Roberts in the 56th minute, made a forceful impact on the game to move closer to a regular starting spot.

“It will gradually begin to show the great quality it has,” added Bielsa. “Today he got off to a very good start and maybe the pace of the game hit him at the end.

“When he is able to play at a good physical level, I think he will make a difference.”
