Leeds and Arsenal have released statements condemning the racist abuses directed against Ezgjan Alioski and Nicolas Pépé online after the players clashed during their teams’ goalless draw at Elland Road.

Pépé was expelled after shoving his forehead against his opponent’s, who fell dramatically, culminating in a series of complaints between the pair. Since then, they have both been attacked on social media and there are also suggestions that the threats were directed at Alioski’s family. Their clubs will work with the police to ensure that the perpetrators are punished.

“The vile abuse directed at Ezgjan Alioski and Nicolas Pépé on social media after yesterday’s Premier League game with Arsenal will not be tolerated by Leeds United,” the Leeds statement read. “We will work closely with the police and football authorities to ensure that those responsible are identified and punished.”

Arsenal made a similar note, saying: “We strongly condemn the vile abuse directed at Nicolas Pepe and Ezgjan Alioski on social media after our match against Leeds United. This is completely unacceptable and we will work with the police and authorities to do everything possible to track down and prosecute the culprits. “

Ivorian international Pépé will serve a three-game ban after his dismissal, missing Premier League games with Wolves, Spurs and Burnley.
