He starts second, at least. Hamilton, meanwhile, spoke of the pressure disappearing after his championship was confirmed in the final race. That seems a bit odd as Bottas has been barely one win away from him in qualifying all season, but there we are.
Being here in Bahrain and adding laps like this… I came today and said ‘let’s have fun and enjoy ourselves’. That is the most important thing: enjoy what you are doing. I think with the pressure a bit low, it’s a bit liberating to go and drive like I just did.
I’d say it doesn’t look good for Bottas, really. He has been close to or ahead of Hamilton in qualifying most weekends, but Sundays have been a weakness. Even when he’s been ahead, he’s struggled to stay ahead in various ways. The big question is whether Verstappen has the ability to interrupt one, if not Hamilton and Bottas. There are many chances to overtake in general, but especially on the first lap.
Both championships are done and dusted, so let’s expect some no-glove action out front.
