latest Nurburgring updates as Lewis Hamilton aims to match the winning record

AWelcome to our live blog coverage for the 2020 (and probably just never …) Eifel Grand Prix at Nurburgring. It’s good to be back here, we’ve had some great races on this track (yes, even the new version) over the years, although we haven’t been back since 2013 and the current generation of F1 cars has changed a lot since then. . I guess today we will find out how that plays out.

Qualifying yesterday was an interesting session, especially since everyone (or all but one) only had one hour of racing on Saturday morning before qualifying took place. In the final tally it was Valtteri Bottas who took the long-awaited third pole position of the season, taking a lap out of the bag after a regular performance in Q2. He finished more than two tenths ahead of Lewis Hamilton, which is not bad at all considering he has 96 poles himself and ends Hamilton’s five-pole streak.

Max Verstappen was just behind Hamilton in third place. Turns out the cold conditions and lack of operation didn’t upset the order much, then. Charles Leclerc had another brilliant session, finishing fourth for Ferrari. His teammate Sebastian Vettel was a far cry from that.
