TThe trial for the 2015 Charlie Hebdo attack was delayed for at least a week after two more defendants tested positive for coronavirus, the presiding attorney said.

Fourteen people are on trial accused of aiding the killers of 12 victims in the attack on the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, a policewoman a day later and four hostages in a Jewish supermarket.

After the main suspect Ali Riza Polat received a diagnosis of Covid-19 over the weekend, the presiding judge ordered that all the defendants be examined.

“In view of the health protocols in force that require the isolation of both positive and contact cases, the hearing will not be able to resume this week,” Regis de Jorna said in an email sent on Sunday to lawyers involved in the case.

The trial had already been suspended until Wednesday after Polat’s positive diagnosis, and Mr. de Jorna told the lawyers that the court would not meet again until all the results were known.

Later, two more defendants tested positive, and two others remained under supervision despite negative results because they were believed to be “contact cases,” according to Mr. de Jorna’s email.

The results of the other defendants, detained in Fleury-Merogis, are due to be presented on Monday.

The extended suspension of the hearing will further delay the conclusion of the trial, which began on September 2.
